CS: P1 Stripe Issued Refunds (Rejected accounts)

Modified on Thu, 06 Jun 2024 at 01:51 PM

When Stripe rejects an account and they have officially begun issuing refunds, we can no longer attempt to assist the customer with requesting a Stripe review. Stripe will aim to refund all donations not already paid out to the recipient.

Stripe keeps their processing fees so this means account owners are responsible for the original processing fee when refunds are issued, thus why they tend to keep the first payment unrefunded until the account owner can cover the cost of the fees.

What Stripe says : " Refunds use your available Stripe balance—this doesn’t include any pending balance. If your available balance doesn’t cover the amount of the refund, Stripe debits the remaining amount from your bank account.

If Stripe can’t debit the remaining amount from your bank account, your refunds may go into a pending status until you add funds to your Stripe balance. You can view a list of all your pending refunds in the Dashboard.

If the original charge underwent currency conversion, the refunded amount converts back using the same process. There are no fees to refund a charge, but the fees from the original charge aren’t returned."

If the information requested by Stripe could not be provided or verified, then it is possible that Stripe determined this account to be at high risk for fraud or disputes. Some users might also be flagged for internal signals that correlate these users to prior fraudulent behavior. Rejection for this is something that Stripe does not take lightly and often involves multiple reviews before the accounts are actioned. In such cases, Stripe does not disclose this information with us. Any actions taken by Stripe regarding their account owners are outside of our control.

What to do:

  • Let the Campaign owner know they may wish to download a copy of their donor list from their campaign dashboard to inform givers that their donations have been refunded by the payment processor.
