Why Was My Donation Refunded on GiveSendGo?

Unexpected Refund from GiveSendGo

If you received a refund you weren't expecting, here's what may have happened. GiveSendGo issues refunds without a giver initiating them in a few specific situations.

The Fundraiser Organizer Closed the Fundraiser

A fundraiser organizer may choose to close their fundraiser and refund all givers. If you're not sure why it was closed, Contact Us and we'll confirm what we can — though we may be limited in what details we can share.

We Weren't Able to Verify Your Donation

Our Trust and Safety team reviews donations to protect both givers and fundraisers. In some cases, a donation can't be verified and is refunded as a precaution. We don't share specific details about why a donation was flagged, but these checks exist to keep the platform safe for everyone.

If you'd like to try donating again, Contact Us and we'll do our best to help.

A Political Fundraiser Exceeded Contribution Limits

Donations to political candidate fundraisers that exceed federal contribution limits may be refunded to keep the fundraiser in compliance with campaign finance regulations.

A Large Donation Required Additional Verification

For larger donations, we may reach out to verify the giver's information before processing. If that verification isn't completed, we refund the donation. This is part of how we prevent fraud and protect everyone on the platform.

You Initiated a Dispute With Your Bank

If you initiated a dispute on this donation through your bank or card issuer, the credit was issued by your card company, not by GiveSendGo. If you received a credit but didn't initiate a dispute, Contact Us and we'll help figure out what happened.

How Long Refunds Take

After a refund is initiated, the request is submitted to your bank or card issuer. The refund typically appears as a credit on your original payment method within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.

If a refund is issued shortly after the original charge, you may see it as a reversal — the original charge drops off your statement instead of appearing as a separate credit.

If the refund cannot be processed by your bank, the funds are returned to GiveSendGo and may take up to 30 days to reissue from the original refund request.

If you're not sure why you received a refund, Contact Us and we'll confirm what we can — though we may be limited in what details we can share.
