Why Was My Donation Refunded on GiveSendGo?

Unexpected Refund from GiveSendGo

Donations on GiveSendGo are final in most cases, but there are situations where we issue refunds. If you've received one unexpectedly, here's what may have happened

Why You Might Have Received a Refund

The Organizer Closed Their Fundraiser

If a fundraiser organizer decides to close their fundraiser, we refund all givers.

The Donation Couldn't Be Verified

Our Trust & Safety team reviews donations to protect both givers and fundraisers from fraudulent activity. During this review, if we weren't able to verify your donation, we will refund it. We don't share details about why a donation was flagged, but these checks are an important part of keeping GiveSendGo safe.

If you have questions about a refunded donation, reach out to us via the Contact Us button.

A Donation Was Disputed by a Giver

If a giver initiates a dispute with their credit card company, their bank may issue a credit back to them. When this happens, the disputed amount is temporarily removed from your fundraiser balance while we work through the dispute process with the bank. Depending on the outcome, the funds either go back to the fundraiser or the credit remains with the giver

A Political Candidate Fundraiser Exceeded Donation Limits

For fundraisers supporting political candidates, donations that exceed contribution limits may be refunded to comply with campaign finance regulations

The Organizer Donated to Their Own Fundraiser

Organizers can't donate to their own fundraisers. If this happened by mistake, we automatically refunded the donation

A Large Donation Required Additional Verification

For larger donations, we may reach out to verify the giver's information for security purposes. If additional verification wasn't successfully completed, we will refund the donation. This helps us prevent fraud and ensure donations are legitimate.

How Long Refunds Take

Refunds typically appear in your bank account or original payment method within 3–10 business days, depending on your bank's processing time.

If you're not sure why you received a refund or want more details about the process, reach out to us via the Contact Us button.
