What to Do if a Campaign Owner or Recipient Has Passed Away
We understand that navigating next steps after the loss of a loved one can be difficult. If you need to manage an existing GiveSendGo campaign connected to someone who has passed away, this guide outlines the available options and required documentation.
What Are My Options?
Option 1: Transfer the Campaign and Funds to the Executor or Administrator
If
you would like to keep the campaign active, we can transfer ownership
to the executor or legal administrator. Once transferred, they will have
access to:
Manage the campaign content and updates
Access and withdraw remaining funds
Set up or adjust transfer methods for payout
This option is typically appropriate when the campaign should continue and a trusted executor or legal administrator is prepared to take responsibility for managing the campaign and handling the remaining funds.
Option 2: End the Campaign and Transfer Funds to the Connected Bank Account
If
the campaign recipient had already connected their bank account and
completed identity verification, any remaining funds can be transferred
directly to that account. In this case:
The campaign will be closed
The campaign page will remain viewable, but donations will be disabled
No further changes can be made to the campaign
Choose this if the recipient had already completed identity verification and connected their bank account, and you’d like to close the campaign while ensuring remaining funds are delivered as intended.
Option 3: End the Campaign and Refund All Donations
This option allows you to close the campaign and issue full refunds to all givers. Once the refund process is complete, the campaign will be closed and will no longer accept donations.
This may be the right choice if the campaign can no longer continue and you prefer to return all donations to its givers.
Required Documentation for Processing Changes
To initiate any of the options below, the executor or legal administrator of the deceased’s estate must provide:
- Proof of executor status: This may be a will, court documentation, or other legal paperwork naming the executor or administrator of the estate
To get started, reach out to us via the Contact Us button with your documentation and let us know which option you'd like to proceed with.
