What to Do If a GiveSendGo Campaign Organizer or Recipient Has Died

Modified on Thu, Apr 24 at 11:19 PM

The passing of a loved one—whether a campaign organizer or recipient—is a deeply emotional and overwhelming experience. If you’ve become responsible for managing a GiveSendGo campaign tied to someone who has died, we’re here to help you navigate this process with clarity and support.

Depending on your situation, there are three available options:

  • Transfer the campaign and funds to an approved executor or administrator

  • Close the campaign and transfer any remaining funds to the recipient’s bank account

  • End the campaign and issue refunds to all givers

Here’s how each option works and what documentation is required.

Required Documentation for Processing Changes

To initiate any of the options below, the executor or legal administrator of the deceased’s estate must provide:

  • A government-issued photo ID
A clear image of a valid ID such as a driver’s license or passport, accompanied by a note showing today’s date

  • A copy of the obituary or death certificate
This document confirms the passing of the campaign organizer or recipient

  • Proof of executor status
This may be a will, court documentation, or other legal paperwork naming the executor or administrator of the estate

Option 1: Transfer the Campaign and Funds to the Executor or Administrator

If you would like to keep the campaign active, we can transfer ownership to the executor or legal administrator. Once transferred, they will have access to:

  • Manage the campaign content and updates

  • Access and withdraw remaining funds

  • Set up or adjust transfer methods for payout

This option ensures the campaign can continue supporting its original purpose while being managed responsibly.

Option 2: End the Campaign and Transfer Funds to the Deceased Recipient’s Account

If the campaign recipient had already connected their bank account and completed identity verification, any remaining funds can be transferred directly to that account. In this case:

  • The campaign will be closed

  • The campaign page will remain viewable, but donations will be disabled

  • No further changes can be made to the campaign

Option 3: End the Campaign and Refund All Donations

This option allows you to close the campaign and issue full refunds to all givers. Choose this route if you do not wish to manage or continue the campaign in any form. Once the refund process is complete, the campaign will be closed no longer accept donations.
