The Referral Code Generator is a powerful tool that allows you to track donor traffic to your campaign. And best of all, it's FREE! By creating unique campaign donate page URLs, you can see exactly where your donations are coming from. This is a great feature for those who are promoting their campaigns across multiple platforms or want to measure the effectiveness of various promotional efforts.


How to Enable the Referral Code Generator

  1. Log in to your GiveSendGo account and navigate to your Campaign Dashboard.
  2. Select Manage Campaign > Donation Settings.
  3. Find the 'Allow Referral Code?' option and toggle it to 'Yes'.


Creating a Referral Code

Once the 'Allow Referral Code?' option is enabled, you'll see a field labeled 'Enter a new custom referral code'.

  1. Type in your desired referral code. This should be unique and easy to remember.
  2. A preview of your referral URL will appear underneath the field, e.g. "Referral URL: givesendgo.com/MyCampaign/donate?Code=REFERRAL_1
  3. Click 'Save' to confirm your new referral code.


Managing Referral Codes

Next to the 'Allow Referral Code?' option, you'll see a button labeled 'Referral Code History'. When clicked, a popup will appear showing your added referral codes with the following options:

  • Copy referral URL to clipboard
  • Copy referral code button embed code to clipboard
  • Delete referral code


Using Referral Codes

When someone lands on your campaign donate page via a referral URL or by clicking on the referral button installed on any webpage, the referral code will auto-populate on the donation form. When a donation is made, the referral code will be added to the donation record and can be accessed in the downloadable donation report.


Donation reports can be viewed and downloaded by going to Campaign Dashboard > Campaign Data > Donation Reports.


Why Use Referral Codes?

Referral codes allow you to track the effectiveness of your various promotional efforts. For example, you could create a unique referral code for each social media platform you use to promote your campaign, and then see which platform is driving the most donations. You could also use referral codes to track the success of specific promotional events or strategies.
