Why Were Donations to My Campaign Refunded?

Modified on Mon, Jul 14 at 6:43 PM

Seeing donations refunded from your campaign? We know that can be confusing—here’s a breakdown of when and why that happens, and what you can do about it.

Donations to your campaign may have been refunded if:

  • The campaign was closed
When a campaign is closed by our team for Terms of Service violations donations that haven’t been paid out are refunded to givers.

  • The donation was flagged or disputed.
Our system screens for fraudulent activity. If a donation looks suspicious—or if it’s disputed by the giver—it may be refunded and removed from your balance.

  • The campaign is classified as political and the donation couldn’t be accepted.
For campaigns under the “Political” category, we are required to enforce campaign finance rules. Incomplete or mismatched info may lead to automatic refunds.

If your campaign is still live and verified, you can continue receiving donations. If verification or payout setup is pending, we recommend completing those steps as soon as possible.
