Political Campaign Fundraising on GiveSendGo

Running a Political Candidate Fundraiser on GiveSendGo

GiveSendGo supports political candidate fundraising through the Political Campaign category. This article explains how that category works, what the platform currently does and does not offer, and what compliance responsibilities rest with you as the fundraiser organizer.

Who This Category Is For

The Political Campaign category is for fundraisers raising funds for an individual candidate running for electoral office. This includes US federal offices (House, Senate, President) and US state-level offices. It is not intended for general advocacy, issue-based fundraisers, or PAC fundraising.

What Happens When You Select the Political Campaign Category

When you select Political Campaign as your category, your donation form is automatically configured to collect additional required fields from givers, including:

  • Giver occupation
  • Giver employer name
  • Residential Address (giver's home address)
  • Employer Street Address

These fields are required under US Federal Election Commission (FEC) regulations for political contributions. Givers who do not complete these fields will not be able to complete their donation. This applies to all fundraisers in the Political Campaign category, regardless of the office being sought.

If your fundraiser is not for an electoral candidate or political office, do not select this category. Doing so adds unnecessary fields that confuse givers and may cause donations to be declined or automatically refunded. Contact Us if you need help updating your category.

Current Platform Limitations

GiveSendGo does not currently provide built-in tools to enforce per-giver contribution limits. The platform will process donations regardless of whether they individually or cumulatively exceed applicable thresholds.

Monitoring contribution totals per giver and enforcing applicable limits is the responsibility of the fundraiser organizer.

Your Compliance Responsibilities

By running a Political Campaign fundraiser on GiveSendGo, you agree to comply with all applicable federal and state campaign finance laws, including:

  • FEC contribution limits and reporting requirements (for federal candidates)
  • State campaign finance reporting requirements (for state candidates)
  • Disclosure and recordkeeping obligations

GiveSendGo's collection of giver employment information is a platform feature and does not constitute legal compliance services or enforcement. Consult a campaign finance attorney or your jurisdiction's campaign finance regulatory body with compliance questions.

Refunding a Donation

If you need to refund a specific donation, for example because it exceeds a contribution limit, see Requesting a Refund for instructions.
